Another technique that has evolved and become more
affordable in the last five years is RFID chip technology. The way these work
is that the chip is printed a bit like stamps each have a unique code is then
inserted in a manufacturing plant and a master list forwarded to the
distributor. This correlation of data makes copying of products that are unique
to the chip inserted. The chip is scanned when the product passes near an RFID
scanner and the scanner will read the unique ID number and compare it with a
database of original manufacture. Chips can be created and copied and with the
use of the false numbers will not clear the item was a fake until it is
registered to the original database, thus making it exploited and fitting
counterfeiters to one hit wonders.
